The Jharkhand journey

Nine days, nine tales.

01

Breathe deeper

Familiarise and settle into the surroundings while we understand the purpose of the journey you're about to take.

02

The plateau

Sal forest, bending mountain roads, mining region and falls along the ridgelines of Chota Nagpur highlands.

03

Disconnect to reconnect

Away from the noise, you return to the sustainable practices of tribal communities — their farming methods and jungle life.

04

Art walls

See what the walls speak to you through Sohrai and Khovar paintings.

05

The fibre story

Understand the fibre at its source, and see how handlooms with tribal designs carve their way into a modern outlook.

06

Peek into the past

Discover the lost-wax casters — from the beeswax thread to the molten pour.

07

Live simply, live real

Taste new flavours, listen to new ragas, and understand the tribal way of living in harmony with nature.

08

Exchange and connect

Somewhere between travel, conversation, community and grassroots understanding, your body, mind, spirit and soul begin to feel lighter.

09

Slow return

Reflecting on the journey, cherishing the memories and the new bonds built.

Why this program, and why not a tour

What makes the Great Indian Journey real.

01

The people looking for something meaningful.

We seek travellers who are willing to listen deeply, stay curious, and explore the grassroots.

02

Small, diverse cohort.

At the core, this program is about the connection between People, Places and Perspectives.

03

Social conscience.

The money stays where you travel. Your dollars should go to the people whose land and culture you experience.

04

Past the postcard version.

The Great Indian Journey goes past the obvious, touristy version of a place and curates an immersive experience.

Your hosts

Bhavesh · Aparna · Prachi

We three musketeers from the development sector crossed paths during a youth exchange programme. Each of us has spent at least two years on the ground in the regions where the Great Indian Journey takes place — exploring villages off the highway, the markets, offbeat immersions, and local culture, and building the relationships this journey runs on.
